Beekeeping Experience

Ever wondered what it's really like to be a beekeeper?

Join Chris from Bountiful Bees during a real hive inspection at one of our Gloucestershire apiaries. This hands-on experience gives you the opportunity to get up close to thousands of honey bees, learn how a colony works, help inspect frames, and ask as many questions as you like.

Unlike a classroom course, this is real beekeeping. Every visit is different depending on the season and what the bees are doing on the day.

  • £20 for each additional person
  • Maximum group size: 4 people

Important Information

Honey bees are generally calm when handled correctly, but beekeeping involves working with live insects and there is always a risk of being stung.

Protective clothing will be provided and we take every reasonable precaution to minimise the risk, however we cannot guarantee that you will not be stung.

This experience is not suitable for anyone with a known severe allergy to bee stings.

Please wear sturdy footwear and clothing appropriate for the weather, as the experience takes place outdoors.

Availability & Weather

Experiences are available by prior arrangement during the active beekeeping season, typically from spring through to early autumn.

Experiences usually take place on Fridays, although weekend appointments may be available by arrangement.

As beekeeping is heavily dependent on weather conditions, it may occasionally be necessary to rearrange your experience at short notice. We will always try to offer an alternative date where possible.

If we are unable to find a suitable alternative date, a full refund will be offered.

The welfare of the bees is our top priority, and experiences may be postponed if weather conditions are unsuitable for opening hives safely.
